Giselle Duval and Tim Andrew mysteriously transform scrap sheet steel into stunning Fine Art jewellery treasures by combining traditional metalworking techniques with a contemporary eye, while looking to mankind's oldest inspirations: Nature and Love. Initially, they sold their scrap metal clocks, hanging ornaments and fridge magnets at small, local markets (a wonderful part of summers in Victoria, BC) and craft fairs. Then one day, Tim placed a small hammered heart, that he had made from a piece of scrap sheet steel, in the palm of Giselle's hand. She fashioned a string to it and wore it around her neck, proud of the symbol of his love. Since that first pendant was made, their love - and their talent - has flourished!
While Giselle wore "The Heart" working at the markets and craft fairs, people kept noticing, and commenting on, the askew little heart that adorned her neck. Soon they added the pendants to their offerings after some refining: Tim divising new shapes and Giselle decorating them with nature-inspired themes. The pendants were an instant hit. Simple steel into stunning scenery! |
When January 2006 rolled around and Tim asked Giselle, "What do you want to do this year?" she answered with "I want a store!" Based on the success from 9 Christmas Fairs, they wrote up their Business Plan, and by spring opened their own gallery in the heart of Old Town Victoria, BC. The RAVE'N'IRON Gallery, being 725 sq.ft., also featured many local artists/friends, that Giselle and Tim had met along the way in their years of markets and craft fairs; however, what was soon made glaringly apparent was that their pendants were the mainstay of the entire gallery. Visitors from around the corner to around the globe exclaimed, "I have never seen ANYTHING like this!" Many improvements have developed along the way, of course: the sharpening of their metalworking skills, the knowledge of what shapes and designs speak most to people, and the courage to offer their pendants to a world-wide market. We now meet them at this crossroad, where they will be returning to their Artistic roots while offering their pendants online, showing them in upcoming trade shows, and closing their downtown Gallery. Giselle and Tim would like to give a big "Thank You!" to all who have supported THE RAVE'N'IRON along the way, and a warm "Welcome!" to those who are just now discovering their incredible work.

Giselle and Tim find that by using reclaimed steel for its aesthetic value, instead of its intrinsic one, they can challenge conventional jewellery making materials and their worth versus the footprint they leave behind. Inspiration for their work comes from the natural beauty surrounding their West Coast hideaway home, where they live and work, enjoying a simple, serene lifestyle.
The true value of these absolutely One of a Kind pieces emerges from the sentimentality through the connection of the person to whom it has spoken. These treasured adornments are sure to cause passers by to compliment and inquire about its origin... prepare yourself!
